Week 17 Letter: Another Beautiful Week in Izamal

Well, this is going to be a short one bc my email that I HAD JUST FINISHED WRITING just got deleted. Everything. Like 20 mins of typing. Sorry.

But here’s one thing that happened this week:

I guess for miracle of the week my companion and I decided to Fast on Wednesday for various things but one of them was for 3 new investigators. But we decided to get specific with our goal. We decided that we wanted to find 2 men and 1 woman. So she fasted for that but in my fast I decided to pray that we would be able to find a family of new investigators. So we were walking along the road to our next appointment when a man called out to us and asked us where we were from and where we lived. So we started to talk to him and explain what our purpose is and what our message is about and he all of a sudden interrupted us and asked if we had time right now to come in to his house to meet his wife and kids and share our message with his family. So we did. And that day we got his wife, him, and his son (who is 10) as new investigators! It was such an amazing experience and we got him and his son to commit to a date. We are working with the family right now, and I can tell that Satan is really working hard here bc we haven’t had a lot of success with finding him during the day to teach. Both return appointments have fallen through. For 2 days we couldn’t find him even though we went by his house twice each day. mish bah. But we finally caught him Saturday night and finally set up a return appointment and he promised that he would be there and he’s already almost half way through with First Nefi!! We are stoked to finally teach this guy the restauracion.

Oh and even though transfers are next week, my comp and I know that we are staying here in Izamal for one more transfer. Long story short, President called us and told us that he’s keeping us here bc of the work that we’ve been doing. Izamal is finally progressing.

Mom, I finally got my package last Friday and zone conference. Thanks so much for everything in it! You really know me with the popcorn and nutter butters you sent me!

I also got two letters! One from you mom and one from my coworkers and managers from the theater!!I loved them both! Ellie, tell everyone at work I said thanks!!

I’m working on a letters to send back home, it’s just that there is no such thing as free time as a missionary. But I promise that I’m working hard to do so.

Dad, as always, thanks for the pics and for your inspiring and uplifting emails! Love you tons!

Sorry Ellie, I don’t have time to respond personally to you this week, but I do want to say in this one that you are A FREAKING BABE! Holy cow, you looked beyond beautiful in those pics! Dylan better know that he is a lucky kid. I’ll talk more to you about this next week... haha.

Anyways, I have to go, but pics are coming!

Week 16 Letter: Hurricane Season is Here

Hey everyone! Another week has come and gone here in Izamal. Sometimes I feel like the week is going by so slow, but then times like now, I can’t help but feel like time is flying.

Anyways, this week was okay, I guess. The past 3 days were awful. Satan is really working hard on us in this area, we know it. We had close to NO success these past 3 days and it was really discouraging. But we know where and who we put our trust in.

There’s not much to say about what happened this week bc nothing really did happen. It was just a typical week.

One thing that I have learned this past week is the trust that Heavenly Father has for us. It’s actually something that we have to earn from him. He is going to always love us, He will always be there for us. But what we need to do is make sure that we are worthy enough to receive his TRUST. Love and trust and similar, but also different.

Although I guess a hurricane is coming in and that’s why it’s been raining here literally all day. It’s kinda gloomy without the sun, but somehow it is still really beautiful here even when it rains. Oh hey, I wore a jacket for the first time ever OUTSIDE since I’ve been here. It was really weird to actually need a jacket bc for ONCE it was chilly. It was a weird experience for me.

Anyways, glad to hear that everyone is doing well and everyone is healthy.

Glad to hear that you all made it to masons farewell talk. You guys mean a lot to him, trust me. He tells me how awesome you guys are and what a great support you have been to him. Thanks for making him feel like part of the family.

Ahh, thanks for all the pics you guys sent in emails! I love seeing everyone!

Sam, you look amazing and soo big in your football uniform. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait to go to one of your games when I get back next year!

Ellie, you look absolutely gorgeous in the pic with mom and dad and mason! Such a babe.

Dad, thanks for the talk (Waking the Dormant Spirit by F. Enzio Busche). I’m going to hopefully print it out now, but if not, I’ll do it next week. Thanks for finding it for me!

Tell the Pearsons’ that they are in my prayers. That’s so horrible to hear that they got into an accident and I hope everyone is okay and if someone got hurt, that they are doing better.

Tell Brackon I said congratulations and to enjoy the short time he has before he reports. I can’t believe he reports so fast, in November! That’s like no time at all!

Thanks for everything, as always. You guys are the best and I’ll be sending pics soon. Love you tons!!

Hurricane weather...

I know that it's really blurry, but we had a Relief Society activity on Saturday about food storage. My comp and i are on the far right.

Week 15 Letter

How is it already Pday?? It feels like I was just writing you guys last week! Good news: I’m writing from Merida, so that means I have super-fast internet which means pictures!! Yay, you get to see my super sweaty face...

Anyways, this week was good, I guess. fue mas o menos. We had a lot of lessons with current investigators, and when that happens, it feels like you sometimes aren't really progressing bc we didn’t really find any new investigators.

But first I have to tell you about this lady we found to teach. She cracks me up. So this is how the story goes. We were out 2 Sundays ago with a member and we passed his cousins (Carmen) house (in Izamal, everyone’s family lives there) and we talked to her and set up a return appt. so, fast-forward 3 days and we go back to her house to teach her and she has her neighbor over and we start to teach Carmen and her neighbor Maria. And it quickly becomes apparent that we were sent to Carmen’s to teach her neighbor. We start to ask her the typical questions to get to know her better and it turns out that she’s been investigating for a church to go to for a while now. She likes our message and accepted a date and I can’t wait to go back with her this week! I’ll keep you updated on her.
Let’s see, some interesting things happened this week. There was a huge scorpion in the house on our little table in our bedroom. It was so big and black and disgusting. And I may or may not have screamed super loud when I saw it. Mind you, I have never seen a real scorpion in person before, let alone, crawling all over my belongings. Ugh, it was so disgusting. So it ended up crawling up under one of the legs of the table and right then our district leader called us so we had to talk with him for a while before we could get the chance to kill it. So my comp was in the other room while I kept going back and forth between rooms to check that the scorpion didn’t move from its spot. But then one of the times I went back to check on it, IT WASNT THERE UNDERNEITH THE TABLE. Right. I know. IT DISAPPEARED. We looked all over the room and in the bathroom for it, and we STILL don’t know what happened to it. I was freaking out and barely got any sleep that night, I was so stress out about it crawling all over my stuff and laying little baby scorpion eggs in my clothes. Reason 42 why I love sleeping in a hammock. Bugs don’t crawl all over my bed. Yeah, so that was stressful.
Then we had Stake Conference this weekend and it was really good and uplifting, but we didn’t have any investigators come, even though we were supposed to have Lucy and Manuel come. They both didn’t show up. Frustrating, but we are working on it.

Then, yesterday, we were out and a car pulls up to us and its two Japanese looking couple and they try and ask us where something is in broken Spanish and the show us the picture of the Catholic church on their phone. and so my comp and I are trying to talk to them in Spanish and are using our hands and arms to try and communicate (it was quite embarrassing) and they aren’t understanding at all and the girl in the passenger seat says a word in English, and my comp and I at the same time go, "you guys speak English??!!!" and they were like, yeah, of course! We are so happy you guys speak English. Long story short, we got in to the car with them and showed them where to go. they were both from Japan, but lived in Texas bc they were both studying and getting their Masters in Teaching English as a second language and decided to go to Cancun for vacation and decided to take a trip to Izamal. So we shared with them who we are and what we do and they accepted a pamphlet. I probably won’t ever know what comes from sharing just a little part of the gospel with them, it was still cool to speak with some tourists. They even offered to take us out to dinner, but we couldn’t accept bc we had previous appointments.

So yeah, that was my week. Sorry it was so long.

Pics are coming soon. Thanks for all your support!

Oh, and tell Mariah, I said congrats on her mission call!! I’m so excited for her and she’s going to love it! And I’m happy she’s speaking Spanish!!

Decided to try and be artistic with our pics bc its soo stinking pretty in izamal. i actually look good in this one, but that's probably bc its not a close up of my sweaty face haha

Last Monday, it stormed when we got home and bc it felt soo good we spent like a good 10 mins playing in the rain, and we decided to take some pics, of course

We stayed the night Saturday night with these sisters in our zone for Stake Conference. it was fun, it was like a sleep over and we slept with our hammocks bunk bed style. i slept under my companion while her hammock was directly above me. it was a lot of fun actually.

So dad, you wanted to know how i sleep on my stomach in my hammock. well this is how... haha not really.
